Carey was 5'10 inches tall when she became a high-end model. Her popularity among American fashion designers Calvin Klein or Ralph Lauren was very high. Her father, who was a renowned scientist who won the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists 1979 Scientist of the Year award is a renowned geologist. As a result of his work, Carey was raised all over the globe. Modeling began part time when she was a student attending college at University of Colorado and caught the eye of a rep from the Ford model Agency in New York. She moved to France in 1980 and lived for a short time in Paris as well as Bordeaux prior to deciding to move back home to New York to continue with her education at college and build a modeling career. Soon, she was appearing on the covers of Vogue, Glamour, etc. She was a full-time student in New York University, obtaining the degree in Literature, which she earned while working on modeling assignments. When she arrived in New York she began to study acting. She began her acting career through a tiny role in 'Club Paradise" in 1986, starring Robin Williams. When she is not working she loves skiing or windsurfing. She also enjoys climbing mountains as well as whitewater river rafting.
